If you live in Eldoret and haven’t been to Ckay’s Coffee House and Restaurant, I’ll advise you to take some time and check it out. The food, service, location, and ambiance are to die for. Ckay’s Coffee House is located along Iten Road, 10 minutes from Eldoret City CBD, at Diesel Power Petrol Station on your way to the University of Eldoret Junction.
Here’s a little recap. Ckay’s Coffee House and Restaurant is a gas-stop cafe but not the usual type. I live on Iten Road (Chepkoilel Road), and I’ve always noticed the Cafe right over Diesel Power Petrol Station’s Mini Mart. At first, I didn’t think much about it. Those kinds of cafes aren’t my cup of tea, but on this particular day, I was forced to check them out due to unavoidable circumstances.
First Impressions: More than a Gas Stop Restaurant
On this particular Tuesday, I had an important deadline I had to finish, and electricity decided to pull a wild card on me. I could visit a co-working space in Eldoret CBD, but that was too far. I needed an hour to beat my deadline and didn’t feel like going too far. That’s when Ckay’s Coffee House and Restaurant hit my mind. It’s just 5-minutes away, and I was sure they’d have some electric sockets I could use while I enjoy a cup of coffee and finish my work.
Thirty minutes later, I reached my destination. First, I’d like to say that I was impressed by their massive dedicated parking lot. You don’t get much in a gas station restaurant. It’s paved, and an emergency meeting point is indicated.
Ckay’s Coffee House is a floor above Diesel Power Gas-Station Minimart. When you finally reach the entrance, you’ll forget it’s on a gas stop and start marveling at the interior decor. The owner took much time and money to set up this coffee house and restaurant because it was designed with top-tier finishes. The lighting, warm, vibrant colors, seating areas, and glass wall displays are above Eldoret’s paycheck.
Ckay’s Coffee House is divided into two sections. At the entrance, there’s a right side—perfect for dates, small gatherings, and casual meets (the fancy side). On the left side, you have the kitchen area, with a more relaxed restaurant-setting design complete with a terrace overlooking the busy Iten road and Eldoret East side views.
As you’ve already guessed, I chose to sit on the terrace, but not before the rains ruined everything.
I was going to get a simple black coffee and complete my work, but the sights and smells of Ckay’s Coffee House and Restaurant made me curious about their menu.
Ckay’s Coffee House and Restaurant Menu
Believe me when I say Ckay’s Coffee House and Restaurant is perhaps the most underrated chill spot in Eldoret City. They have a full menu that includes anything you’d think of. It’s a coffee house, after all, and my favorite item on the Menu was Malindi Machiatto—yes, I know, we are talking about Eldoret here!
It was Tuesday, and according to the leaflets on the Table, it was Burger Tuesday: buy one, get one free. I love Burgers, and ever since I moved to Eldoret City, I’d missed my Wednesday Burger nights at Westgate Mall in Nairobi. I decided to sample the offer, and I was immediately hooked! I won’t hesitate to say the Coffee barista needs a raise—the coffee was wholesome.
Food menu prices for a single person at Ckay’s Coffee House and Restaurant range between KES 250 and KES 800. For KES 1,000, you can have a full-blown date. By the way, I noticed this joint is quite popular with young love birds.
Ckay’s Coffee House and Restaurant Menu: Assorted Coffee and Drinks, Fries, Local Cuisine, Continental Platters, Sandwiches, Full Breakfast platters, Exotic Cocktails (fruit), Meats, Vegetarian goods, Grilled Meat, Ice Cream, and so much more.
NB: If you happen to visit during the morning or late in the afternoon and don’t want to spend a lot on a full-blown meal, I recommend ordering one of their exotic fruit cocktails and a sandwich – it’s as good as a complete meal, and you’ll need an hour to let everything settle in.
Amenities At Ckay’s
If you are a parent with kids and would like to catch up with friends on a Weekday evening or Sunday afternoon, Ckay’s Coffee House and Restaurant offers the perfect setting. You can leave your kids at a designated play area and even leave your car at the Car Wash while you enjoy some legit Coffee and friendly company.
I am unsure if all these amenities are part of Ckay’s Coffee House and Restaurant, but their proximity makes it the perfect spot to kill two birds with one stone. Therefore, you can grab a few supplies at the Minimart below, fill up your vehicle’s gas tank (KES 3 discount), wash it, and enjoy some delicious food from their menu.
On the rooftop, Ckay’s Coffee House and Restaurant has a designated party and event area where you can host birthdays, wedding receptions, graduation parties, company conferences, and more. At the same time, you can enjoy Eldoret City’s expansive greenery from an aerial view.
Overall Experience at Ckay’s
For several reasons, I’d say Ckay’s Coffee House and Restaurant is the best new Coffee House and restaurant in Eldoret City. Their service is unmatched. The Staff offer top-notch service and are very kempt, uptown, and professional. One of the staff, in particular, who i highly commend (Humphrey) was hospitable, accomodating, prompt, and professional throughout my time ( I spent 4 hours instead of one).
Also, the manager (a stunning lady) came to say hi, which was an act of courtesy I appreciated. Let’s just say the Ckay’s Coffee House and Restaurant staff complement each other.
The food is exceptional; by that, I mean the servers make sure everything is displayed like a five-star hotel. Plates, cups, and accessories are displayed at continental standards, and the food is extremely tasty. I must repeat, the service is quite fast. Wait time is the best I’ve experienced in Eldoret City.
The restaurant’s ambiance is very impressive for a small city like Eldoret. I loved the huge windows, warm lighting, and decor. The seats and tables are expensive and tastefully designed—you could stay here for hours without getting tired. But here’s where they got me hooked: Ckay’s Coffee House and Restaurant has climate control in its dining area for when it gets chilly.
So far, my favorite spots are the terrace and either of the corner tables on the inside.
The washrooms are mint clean and away from the dining area at the entrance, which is genius, in my opinion.
There’s only one thing they need to address—the internet speeds aren’t as good. I believe this would occasionally attract more digital nomads like me.
Overall Verdict: 9.5/10. I was extremely impressed by this restaurant! I will visit again and again!
