Sometimes, life takes you to places you’ve never expected. Over the weekend, my friend Cera rang me to see if I was free to accompany her and her hubby to their small farm in Thika. Little did I know I’d end up at Wakalucy Fish Place Kamakis.
Wakalucy Fish Place is located at Kamakis, along the Eastern Bypass of Thika Road in Nairobi.
I’ll be honest. The only popular fish restaurant I know is Osumo’s Big Fish Restaurant (which I discovered through Twitter during the pandemic). Wakalucy Fish Place Kamakis is one of those places I happened upon by chance and ended up loving.
Impromptu Visit To A Small Farm in Thika Countryside
But before we get to Wakalucy Fish Place Kamakis – I’ll let you in on the details of how we got there.
If you’re in Kenya, you know we’ve been dealing with heavy floods. And I wasn’t planning on getting out of my house over the weekend. It was extremely chilly, and the videos I’d seen online of people getting stranded outside ensured I locked my door and spent quality time catching up on my favorite TV shows and podcasts.
So, Cera calls and asks if I could accompany them to their farm in Thika. I instinctively wanted to say no, but I love to get out, and a short road trip to Thika is everything I dream of for the weekend. And just like that – they were waiting outside my apartment block with their rugged Old School Mitsubishi Pajero.
I parked a little bag in case it would turn into an overnighter, and off we went through Thika Super Highway into the unknown. The journey was great until we got to Kahawa Sukari Overpass. I’d read online that there was a little bit of flood on the road.
There was some traffic, but it wasn’t due to flooding. The fire department was trying its best to keep that section dry, and the local police were helping ease the traffic and curious onlookers. At that point, we spent 10 minutes max, and we were off to Thika Town.
Amazing Boutique Poultry and Fresh Greens Farm
Cera’s Farm isn’t really in Thika Town but in the countryside region of the town. We got there, and I got to see the kinds of projects they were running. We didn’t want to spend too much time because it was beginning to get gloomy, and we didn’t want to get stuck in the mud.
She has farm animals (chicken project) and an organic patch where she and her husband grow local greens for consumption and sale to friends and colleagues at work. So we spent about two hours harvesting some greens and collecting the week’s tally of eggs(two and a half trays).
I made sure to get a few greens for myself (for free). They gave me five eggs as a token of appreciation for helping them on the farm and accompanying them on the trip.
Wakalucy Fish Place Detour For Lunch
On our way back to Nairobi, Cera’s hubby requested we take a detour at the Eastern Bypass for late lunch. It was already beginning to pour – but I’d never say no to meals with good friends. I’d thought we’d visit one of the many Nyama Choma joints on the stretch, but Cera and her hubby seemed to have their personal favorite – Wakalucy Fish Place.
I was surprised Cera and her husband enjoyed fish, but I didn’t think Wakalucy would be the place to get authentic fish in the city. I have my spots, and luckily, if you’ve been following my posts, you must have already checked out a couple of them.
We parked, got off, and had a warm welcome reception. The enthusiastic servers met us at the door and helped us grab a seat. The place was parked, and if you know anything about the Kenyan restaurant scene, a parked restaurant always means it is doing very well.
Diverse Menu of Authentic African Food
At Wakalucy Fish Place, you get to choose the fish you want at the entrance. The Chef immediately begins preparing it the way you love. The three of us wanted deep-fried fish, Ugali, and African local greens (managu and cream).
We went upstairs because we wanted to catch a view of the highway. Cera’s hubby has a thing for cars and wanted to sit on the terrace to check out cars, and they passed on the highway.
PS: I’d advise anyone visiting this place for the first time to sit upstairs. There’s more space and a terrace view of the road. Also, since the kitchen is downstairs, most guests at Wakalucy love to sit downstairs – it can get a little stuffy and hot.
A little over 30 minutes later, the food was ready. I must admit, the fish presented looked yummy, and the portions of Ugali and greens were wholesome. There’s no special recipe for deep-frying fish; you need to watch out not to get too crusty.
Wakalucy Fish Place Menu and Meal Prices
The meal was sumptuous and as good as you’d find it in the lakeside region of Kenya, Kisumu. The Chef knows their stuff – the fish was well cooked and the greens well fried.
Wakalucy Fish Place menu includes fish (deep-fried and stewed), Ugali (Maize and Millet), French Fries, Rice, Meat (lamb and beef), Nyama Choma, Chicken, Matoke, and Mokimo.
Cost: A full fish meal (large fish) costs KES 1,500.

After the delicious meal, it was time to go back home. Cera and her hubby dropped me at my apartment. I had a bounty of fresh food from the farm and a full stomach. I had to share this exciting place with all my readers. I hope when you visit Wakalucy Fish Place – you get to enjoy their scrumptious offers as I did.
I learned that Wakalucy Fish Place has other locations within Nairobi: Mirema, Kasarani (Club Car Wash), and Kiambu Road. I’ll check them out and share their amazing story with you. They also take orders and deliver within Nairobi City.
