It’s become such a famous spot for all-day dining and a perfect spot for dates, casual meets with friends, and even small gatherings with family. I’ve been compelled to check this place out after seeing all the fancy pictures online.

Recently, when my friend Paula came to Nairobi from Arusha, I decided to give her a taste of the urban Nairobi restaurant scene. I admit I was more impressed than my visitor, and as usual, I took the opportunity to share this fantastic experience at The Copper Ivy Restaurant with my readers.

Why Is Copper Ivy Restaurant In Westlands So Famous?

Here’s the truth: You’ll never go wrong dining at a restaurant in Westlands. It is Nairobi’s high-end shopping and dining district designed to cater to tourists and middle-class Nairobians, and as expected, it offers some of Africa’s top-tier hospitality.

Therefore, for The Copper Ivy Restaurant to make such a buzz in such a high-end location in Nairobi and Africa, it must have pivoted past the normal high standards.

Where is Copper Ivy Restaurant Located?

The Copper Ivy Restaurant is located on the ground floor of the Promenade Building, along Promenade Drive, Westlands, General Mathenge Road.

We chose Monday night. Mondays are lazy in Nairobi and much of Africa, and it’s the best time to get the best service if you visit a popular dining spot anywhere in the world. Fridays and Weekends are a bit crowded in Nairobi, and it would only make sense if you are going out to socialize.

I wanted to take in all the cool vibes The Copper Ivy Restaurant offered while impressing a visiting friend. At 3 p.m., we hailed a cab from my apartment along Thika Road to Westlands.

First Impressions Of This Uptown Restaurant

Once you snake through Nairobi traffic, Westlands is always a breath of fresh air. Our cab driver avoided going through the Central Business District. We went overhead through Pangani and Parklands and finally got a whiff of the breezy Westlands atmosphere—Paula was quick to gasp, “This is Nairobi.”

If the luxury of Westlands Nairobi had struck us, we weren’t ready for what the Copper Ivy had in store for us that night. We were impressed when we pulled into the restaurant’s premises on General Mathenge Drive.

The Copper Ivy Restaurant is as it’s seen on social media—and more. As our server ushered us in, I was drawn by the waterfall at the entrance. I love nature, and this restaurant has incorporated an indoor-outdoor setting. We chose the seating next to the neatly cut bamboo hedge. It offered the perfect vantage point of the restaurant, where we could soak in all the elegant vibes.

On the inside, this restaurant featured a meshed high roof with warm, glistening hanging lighting that added an aura of achievement to whatever you had on. Looking at my reflection in the windows, it felt like I was worth an extra $250,000 in my checking account—and I must admit, I loved every minute of this confident canvas.

A Brief History of The Copper Ivy Restaurant & Takeaway

I’m curious by nature, and while this eloquent, smartly dressed server was serving us, I dropped a bowlful of questions and discovered that the Copper Ivy Restaurant has been open since 2019. I only heard about it in 2020.

This fancy restaurant is split into two sections: the outdoor area (where we sat) and an indoor area with an elegant bar and cafe lounge. Even though it started to pivot during the pandemic, its unique opulent and sophisticated interior design quickly caught tourists and residents in the Westlands area – and over the years, it has slowly grown into the go-to dining spot in Nairobi.

The Copper Ivy Restaurant Menu

I have a lot to say about the menu, and maybe I’ll do another piece about what they offer when I visit next. Still, there’s so much you can eat in one night, but both Paula and I picked food we felt matched the night, and our pockets—needless to say, The Copper Ivy Restaurant is quite affordable for a restaurant in its location and the kind of visitors who walk through its door. I was thoroughly impressed.

The Copper Ivy Restaurant features a wide variety of all-day dining menus, and depending on when you plan to visit, you can pick anything from a full range of traditional breakfast, starters, desserts, global cuisine, and a variety of sumptuous presentations. They have both a vegetarian and a non-vegeterian menu.

I’m a sucker for grilled meat and ordered their grilled chicken that’s topped with creamed mushroom pepper sauce and mashed potatoes and vegetables. Paula had the Chicken Kieve dipped in garlic butter sauce and a light sandwich. For dessert, we both ate ice cream (Chocolate therapy).

The Copper Ivy Restaurant features a wide variety of signature cocktails, mocktails, custom mixes, whiskies, gins, and wines from around the world. Simply ask – and they will deliver.

The Copper Ivy Restaurant has a special happy hour (4:30 pm to 7:30 pm) on cocktails, where you ‘buy one cocktail and get one free.’ I enjoyed the ‘Ivy Mimosa,’ essentially Sparkling Wine and Pomegranate Juice, and Paula got the Blue Berry Bramble (Gin, Lemon Juice, Sugar Syrup, Basil Leaves, and Ice) for KES. 1,050. Remember, these drinks come in pairs. You can also sample the Basil Smash or the Whisky Dawa.

Wines by Glass cost between KES 800 and KES 1,300. You can also get wine by the bottle; they had amazing offers on some titles that night.

If you are a Coffee lover and would love to get a jolt of the finest beans, you’ll enjoy a selection of their finest brews in-house.

The Copper Ivy Restaurant average cost per meal: We spent about KES 3,850 for both of us, and we had a full meal (starter, meal, dessert, and drinks). The average cost of a normal meal at The Copper Ivy Restaurant per person is between KES 850 and KES 1,100, which is quite affordable for an upscale dining spot in Westlands Nairobi.

My Experience

We loved the service and the well-trained servers. The food was professionally presented and prepared. It was also freshly cooked, so there was a little wait time to enjoy your starters and drinks. If you’d like your food fast, we recommend calling in beforehand.
